MK2 Tri-Porter Assembly Guide: From Box to Bank

The MK2 Tri-Porter combines the legendary stability of a three-wheeled design with Carp Porter’s signature durability and modular build. Despite its solid stature, it’s straightforward to put together. Follow the guide below and you’ll be ready to hit the bank in no time.

1. Front Wheel Assembly

Begin by building the front wheel axle unit:

  1. Thread one M12 nyloc nut onto the end of the axle — no need to tighten it fully at this stage.
  2. Slide the first upright onto the axle, ensuring the thumbscrews face outward.
  3. Add a washer, then the wheel, followed by another washer.
  4. Slide the second upright onto the axle, again ensuring thumbscrews are facing out.
  5. Attach the second M12 nut, leaving it loose for now.

2. Rear Wheel Assembly

  1. Slide the axle shaft through the adjustable rear leg.
  2. Add a large washer, then slide the wheel onto the axle.
  3. Follow with another large washer.
  4. Place a small washer on the thumbscrew, then secure it to the axle.
  5. Repeat for the second rear wheel.

3. Fitting Wheels to the Frame

Lay the main frame upside down, with the front fork lugs pointing upward.

Front Wheel:

  1. Slide the assembled front wheel unit into the lugs.
  2. Secure it using the thumbscrews.
  3. Tighten both M12 nuts on the axle until you feel resistance from the nylon collars.
  4. Check the wheel spins freely with minimal side movement — remove a washer if needed for better fitment.

Rear Legs & Wheels:

  1. Locate the two holes on each side of the rear frame section — one for the locking pin, the other for the pivot bolt.
  2. Pull the locking pin outward and slide the rear leg onto the frame. Let the pin click back into place.
  1. Insert an M6 bolt with a washer through the leg flange and frame.
  2. Add another washer and a nyloc nut, tightening it until the thread bites into the nylon — avoid overtightening to maintain leg pivot movement.
  1. Insert the assembled rear wheels into the legs with the pre-drilled holes facing rearward.
  2. Set your preferred height using the locking pin, then secure with the thumbscrew on the opposite side to prevent movement.

4. Handle Assembly

  1. Attach the rear folding handles to the L-brackets using M5 nuts and bolts. Tighten until secure but not over-tightened.
  1. Slide the handlebar cross assembly down onto the vertical handles.
  2. Leave the thumbscrews loose initially, then slide the whole assembly into the rear of the barrow frame.
  3. Once aligned, tighten all thumbscrews to secure the handles in place.

5. Side and Front Bar Assembly

Side Bars:

  1. Slide the side bars into the side slots on the frame.
  2. Secure each bar using the thumbscrews located underneath.

Front Bar:

  1. Fit the universal support bar into the front angle adapters.
  2. Leave the thumbscrews loose.
  3. Insert the full assembly into the front frame uprights.
  4. Attach the front bar into the folding brackets on the angle adapters.
  5. Adjust to your desired length and tighten all thumbscrews to lock the front end securely.

6. Rear Brake Installation

  1. Locate the mounting space on the rear frame, just left of the right-hand handlebar.
  2. Insert the brake arm and secure using the thumbscrew.
  3. Test the brake to ensure it swings freely and makes contact with the tyre tread.

Note: This is a friction-based brake. Use caution when parking the barrow on steep slopes.

7. Final Checks and Drop-In Bag

  1. Fit the metal frame into the drop-in bag, securing it beneath the Velcro flaps.
  2. Drop the bag into the centre of the frame.
  3. Use the rear clips to secure the bag firmly in place.
  4. Double-check that all thumbscrews and nuts are tight.
  5. Inflate all tyres to 25psi.
