How to Replace the Hand Controller on Your Carp Porter Barrow
If your hand controller needs replacing this is the guide for you. The process of replacing it is a quick and straightforward. Follow this step-by-step guide to get your Carp Porter back in action.
Step 1 – Remove the Old Controller
Safety first:
Before working on any part of the electrical system, disconnect and remove the battery from your barrow.
Once the battery is safely out of the way:
- Disconnect the hand controller from the centre cable.
- For easier access, remove the handlebars from the barrow frame.
- On the underside of the controller, you’ll see two Allen key bolts securing it to the handlebar clamp.
- Use the appropriate Allen key to undo these bolts. The controller will then come away from the handle.
🔎 Note: Inside the clamp is a small plastic moulding—this helps the controller sit securely on the bar. Depending on your model, this part may vary. Keep it safe, as you’ll need it when installing the new controller.
Step 2 – Install the New Controller
- Position the new controller on the handlebar.
- Take the original clamp and the correct plastic moulding, and secure it around the controller.
- Insert the bolts into the clamp and start tightening by hand—this helps prevent cross-threading.
- Once the bolts are lined up properly, tighten them fully while holding the controller in the correct position.
Now that the controller is mounted:
- Use cable ties to neatly secure the cable along the handlebar.
- Reconnect the controller cable to the centre cable.
Final Step – Power On and Test
- Reinstall and reconnect the battery.
- Switch the barrow on and perform a quick test to ensure the controller responds as expected.
If everything’s working correctly, your new hand controller is good to go!
