MK2 Carp Porter Assembly Guide: Get Set Up and Ready to Roll

The MK2 Carp Porter is one of our most trusted and versatile barrows, offering rugged reliability and effortless handling straight out of the box. This guide is designed to help you get your barrow fully assembled with ease, so you can spend less time setting up and more time on the bank.

Step 1: Front Wheel Assembly

Begin by preparing the axle and wheel assembly:

  1. Thread one M12 nyloc nut onto one end of the axle. Only a few turns are needed at this stage.
  2. Slide the first upright onto the axle, ensuring the thumbscrew is on the same side as the nyloc nut.
  3. Add a washer, then the wheel, followed by another washer.
  4. Slide the second upright onto the axle.
  5. Thread the second M12 nut onto the opposite end — again, don’t fully tighten yet.

Step 2: Fitting the Wheel to the Frame

  1. Lay the frame on its back with the fork lugs pointing upwards.
  2. Insert the assembled wheel unit into the fork lugs and secure it using the thumbscrews.
  3. Once fitted, return to the M12 nuts on either side of the axle and begin tightening:
    • You’re aiming to eliminate sideways movement without restricting the wheel’s rotation.
    • If needed, remove one washer to fine-tune the spacing.
    • Tighten until you feel resistance from the nylon locking collars. This indicates the nuts are seated correctly and are unlikely to work loose.

Step 3: Rear Leg Assembly

With the frame still upside down:

  1. Take one rear leg and locate the locking pin on its flange.
  2. Slide the leg into place on the side of the frame with two holes, pulling the locking pin outward and releasing it into the correct slot.
  1. Prepare an M6 bolt with a washer and slide it through the flange and frame.
  2. Add a second washer and thread the nyloc nut onto the bolt.
  3. Tighten the assembly using a spanner and screwdriver — just enough for the thread to bite the nylon. Over-tightening may restrict leg movement, so stop once firm resistance is felt.
  1. Insert the rear feet into the leg assemblies and secure with the thumbscrews.

Now, flip the barrow over so it stands on its wheels and rear feet.

Step 4: Handlebar Installation

  1. Slide the handlebars into the rear tubes of the frame.
  2. Secure each with the thumbscrews provided.
  3. If using a Y bar, now is the time to install it:
    • Insert it into the rear box section and set it to your preferred height.
    • Lock in place with a thumbscrew.

Step 5: Side and Front Bar Installation

Side Bars:

  1. Locate the slots on either side of the frame — you’ll see thumbscrews underneath.
  2. Slide the side bars into these slots and secure them to your desired width.

Front Bar:

  1. Insert the angle adapters loosely into the front uprights of the frame.
  2. Fit the front bar into the angle adapters.
  3. Once aligned, tighten all thumbscrews to secure the front end.

This method avoids misalignment and makes installation much smoother.

Step 6: Drop-In Bag Installation

  1. Fit the metal frame of the drop-in bag through the Velcro flaps on the bag itself.
  2. Drop the entire assembly into the centre frame space.
  3. Use the rear clips to fasten the bag securely in place.

Final Checks

  • Ensure all thumbscrews and nuts are tightened securely.
  • Inflate the tyre to 25 psi (recommended pressure, usually printed on the tyre wall).

Ready for the Bank

That’s it — your MK2 Carp Porter is now fully assembled and ready for action. Whether you’re heading out for a quick session or a weekend campaign, this barrow is built to handle it all.
