How to Assemble Your Mk8 Power Porter: The Official Carp Porter Guide
At Carp Porter, we design and build industry-leading barrows trusted by anglers across the globe. As the creators of the Mk8 Power Porter, no one knows this kit like we do — and when it comes to assembly, we’ve made the process straightforward, efficient, and frustration-free.
This step-by-step guide follows the order of the official instruction manual, helping you get your Mk8 Power Porter set up and ready for the bank with confidence.
Step 1: Unboxing and Preparation
Begin by unpacking all parts and laying them out in your workspace. This not only helps you familiarise yourself with the components but ensures nothing is missing before you begin assembly.
Step 2: Rear Wheel Assembly
Note: If you’re using the Mk8 with stabilising feet only, this step can be skipped — the feet are pre-assembled at the factory.
- Take the adjustable rear leg with pre-drilled holes facing towards you.
- Slide a large washer onto the axle.
- Fit the rear wheel onto the axle with the valve facing outward — this ensures easy access for inflation.
- Add another large washer, then a small washer onto the thumbscrew thread.
- Tighten the thumbscrew to secure the wheel in place.
Repeat for the opposite leg. Your rear wheel assemblies are now ready.
Step 3: Front Wheel Installation
- Place the main frame upside down, with the fork lugs facing up.
- Invert the front wheel and gently lower it onto the fork lugs.
- Ensure the wheel is fully seated — improper seating can affect tracking performance.
- On the front crossbar, ensure the pre-installed bolts and washers are facing forward, away from the frame.
- Tighten the short T-screws inside the fork to lock the wheel in position.
- Locate the two rear holes on each fork and install the long T-screws provided in the frame box.
Tip: Tighten all screws firmly, but avoid over-tightening — excessive force can deform the fork lugs.
Check the bolts on the front crossbar and tighten if needed. Although pre-assembled, it’s always wise to verify before use.
Step 4: Fitting the Rear Legs
- Position the rear leg assembly onto the rear frame.
- Locate the locking pin at the top of the assembly — once clicked into place, it holds the leg in the correct position for bolting.
- Fit an M6 bolt with a small washer through the frame and both flanges on the assembly.
- Add a second washer and a nyloc nut — tighten until the thread engages the nylon but allows pivoting.
To finish:
- Pull out the locking pin, slide in the rear axle, set your height, and lock the pin.
- Add a thumbscrew on the opposite side for added security and stability.
Step 5: Frame and Handlebar Assembly
- Flip the barrow over so it stands on its wheels or feet.
- Assemble the handlebars by connecting the crossbar between the two handles.
- Ensure the hand controller is on the right-hand side.
- Leave the crossbar thumbscrews loose during this stage — it makes final fitting much easier.
- Once attached to the frame, tighten the thumbscrews to lock the shape.
Now fit the side bars by sliding them into place and tightening the underside thumbscrews.
For the front bar:
- Slide the angle adapters through the support bar, then insert the unit into the front uprights.
- Position and tighten thumbscrews to secure.
Pro Tip: For a more streamlined profile, fit the thumbscrews on the inside. If you frequently remove the front bar, placing them on the outside may offer easier access.
Lastly, slide the Y-bar into the back of the frame and lock it in with thumbscrews.
Step 6: Connecting the Electronics
The Mk8 Power Porter arrives with all electronic systems pre-installed. Your job is simply to connect them properly:
- Switch off the hand controller by turning the dial fully anti-clockwise.
- Locate the quick-release connectors at the wheel unit and rear handles.
- Align the arrows on the connectors before pushing them together — this ensures correct pin alignment and prevents damage.
- Once aligned, the wing nut will twist and click to lock in place.
To disconnect, twist the wing nut and gently pull the connector apart.
Next:
- Place the battery onto the tray.
- Plug in the battery connector — this will also be used when charging the battery.
Connect “orange to orange” and “black to black.” Always turn off the controller before plugging in or unplugging.
